starter problem!!

hello to all, i recently joined the f250 family, bought a 99 super duty 5.4 V8, and the 2nd day it just plain didnt want to start. had the battery checked and its fine, so i took out the starter and that came up suspect. Replaced it (bought the refurbished one for 30 bucks less, probly my mistake...) and all was well for another day until it happened again. I rolled my truck back 15 feet to get in better position to take a look (after checking the connections and waiting a few minutes, as the starter felt really hot) and it started right up. its been running since (only a few hours) but i fear this happening again. Did i buy a botched starter? its there a solenoid connection malfunction causing friction and getting it too hot to work? could it be an ignition switch problem? if anyone has any advice or personal experience i would love to hear it!

Bad starter.

If the starter was hot, then you're getting current to it. That says the starter solenoid is probably OK.

So what happened when you tried to start? Did you hear the click of the solenoid and pinion throwing?

What was hot, the solenoid or motor housing?
