Hood latch

My 97 has a major problem with the hood. First a bump appeared above the right hand hinge and spring. Then the hood gap to fender on the right side kept getting larger. Now, I took it to Ford for the recall on the speed cable and it got slammed down and I believe the latch was already latched when it went closed but nowthe hood wont ope at all. At some point I may have to get in there because when I opened it 3 years ago it needed new batteries. Any ideas as to how I may release the hood. Ford will do it for $400 of course.

Is it closed all the way or just the first latch? I think mine was stuck on the first latch, but my memory is just not at all clear on it.. I wish I could remember exactly what I did. I think I reached in through the grill and took a bolt out of the latch and pryed it loose. I just can't quite put my finger on it. I'm pretty sure thats it though.

Also I like the 3 years ago comment. That's a good one
