Lost my tail pipe this morning from the resonator back need to put a new one on so I figured why not do the whole exhaust. Have a very limited budget. Any suggestions on a good system? Would prefer to delete the cat while i'm at it.
The down pipe was replaced a few years ago so I'm going to assume that was upgraded.
Any help is much appreciated.
On a side note, the truck sounds friggen awesome missing the tailpipe.
I would look into an MBRP system or diamond eye system. I know Tymar sells 4" turbo back for like 335. I would also check out Complete Performance, i have been dealing with Paul there lately and he is a great guy to work with. Complete Performance Just tell him James Hajek sent you that way.
that was my thinking bronco, i was gonna stop by the local muffler shop and see what they could do with straight pipe. aftermarket mufflers seem to be stainless steel . is that a big difference?
Granny Rocket, are you looking to also throw in a 3" downpipe? Because if you do that keep in mind that going to a local shop, your still going to need to buy a downpipe which is gonna cost you 100 bucks or so. So if that shop can do the rest of it for under 250 then its a good deal, otherwise your better off buying a kit from any of the previously mentioned performance shops. I dont actually know what local shops will charge for labor and materials. I just dont want you paying more than you have to. I know when i had my Camaro, i had true duals put on and it cost me 600 bucks and that wasn't 4" pipe.
stainless is expensive no ifs ands or buts.
the guy who was talking about the Camaro exhaust, That is for a Camaro which has very tight bends. a truck you can literally have straight pipe from approximately the downpipe to in front of the tire, possibly the rear if you can clear the axle correctly.
most exhaust shops can also just weld in pipe if you want to keep the pipe and get rid of the muffler or cat. also another cheap option. If you live in a bad winter area you might think about stainless pipe, but again that is expensive

My Camaro exhaust was straight out of the headers to the back and then up and over the axle... Granted, that cost included the glasspacks i had.

Those bends are wut makes the prices for the exhaust go up. a 90* elbow is usually around $20-30. to me straight pipe with a elbow right in front of the rear tire is the easiest and cheapest route. u dont have to worry about clearance of the rear axle. If you have a chip though, be ready to wash ur rims every week! haha
what exactly consists of a "straight pipe" setup because I was looking up the exhaust systems and most have bends in them. Are you regarding a straight pipe as a pipe with no cat & muffler or a pipe that is literally straight back, no bends. Sorry for the dumb*a$$ questions... I've delt with plenty of old CAR exhaust in my day but this is the first truck system i've had to deal with.
Also, what the difference between some of these brands. They look the same product (size, material, etc..) but ones price is like 2x more...and its not stainless... hmmmmm
On a semi-side note, I have fallen in love with the sound my broken exhaust is making. It is just plain mean!!! I don't know if the 90* bend restricts the exhaust THAT much but I sware the truck also has a little better throttle response. Could just be psychological....
well straight pipe is usually referred to as an exhaust without the cat or muffler. Take another look at those kits. Usually the same pic is used for almost all exhaust systems whatever the kit actually is. I would go to your local exhaust shop and see how much they would charge you for an exhaust system. If you really like the exhaust sound now just leave it if it aint hurting anything, or you could just get some pipe and run it out at a 45 from the pipe you have on there now.
