Question is this, is there a difference in the shift patterns in C6 Transmissions? Reason being, I swapped a 351W and C6 transmission out of an '85 Club Wagon XL van, into my '78 F100. My truck had a 351M and a C6 transmission in it. After hooking it all back up, it seems to be shifting backwards??? I have the tires blocked, been trying to get it tuned, started it in what I thought was park, but it jumped forward...the truck is set up with a floor shifter. When I dropped it into what would be "LOW", it stayed still...is there some type of conversion kit I need to purchase to make this work, or do I just have something hooked up wrong? The van of course was a column shift, but just curious...thanks for the help.
Something is hooked up wrong. Stock the shift pattern is the same: PRND21
Even if someone installed a reverse manual valve body the sequence would be PRN12D
If your tires are blocked, what I like to do is put the shifter in Nuetral and manually shift the trans into Nuetral and then tighten the shifter linkage. It might take some tweaks to get P and 1 lined up correctly, but it shouldn't take much.

If your floor shifter a cable operated one it could be as simple as flipping the bracket that's clamped onto the selector shaft 180 degrees or remount the cable to the other side of the shaft and then readjust it.
