hey guys I have a 17* pump im fixing to put in my truck, im also doin an hp-x-over line at the same time. later this summer I plan to intercool it so my question is should I use the oil lines that are in my truck and an obs hp x over line or should I use the sd lines that came with the used pump and a superduty hp crossover? it looks like they attach to different plugs in the rails and if im not mistaken the sd setup is moved to clear the intake spyder? i just dont want to have this stuff interfere when I install my I/C
Andy, use an OBS HPX line and pull your old fittings out of your old HPOP and put them in the 17* pump so you can reuse your old lines.
Do me a favor when you put all this in your truck. first let me ask which HPX line your considering??? take this into consideration.....
If your getting one of the stainless steel braided soft line-- MAKE SURE it comes with 3 straight fittings for the oil rails. on the OBS you have to move the driver side HPO line that's coming from the HPOP forward(towards the grille) 1 hole. so pull the plug from the hole in front of it and install the line there. when you do this you need to use a straight fitting, NOT THE 90* FITTING. if you use the 90* fitting after moving the line forward you will have problems with busting the o-ring out on that fitting A LOT. i did that and learned the hard way after 6 o-rings, 6 gallons of oil and tons of clean up on my engine. I got the dieselsite HPX which works fine, but didn't come with the extra straight fitting and Bob Riley hasn't installed one on an OBS before so he didn't know there would be a problem there. i told him about the problem and got the sizes for the fitting i needed and A-Line had the fitting in stock. worked fine ever since. some other lines come with the said extra straight fitting like the Tymar HPX.
if you get the KCM hard line i don't think you have to move the HPOP line forward. i think it just kinda bends all around and goes to the port that is just forward of the HPOP line.
so if you get a stainless steel braided line, just be certain that it comes with that extra straight fitting. if it doesn't, simply ask if they can include one with the line b/c it is in fact needed. I don't know if Bob started including them in his or not after my incident, but if you get one from him be sure to ask him about it and if he's still not including a 3rd straight fitting then ask him to send one with it so you can attach the HPOP line to it instead of the 90* fitting. Just trying to make sure you don't end up with the same crap i did. i got stuck all 6 of those times at work wrenching on my truck to get everything to stop leaking and clean it all up.
that sux travis, sry to here about all the trouble. Thanks for the info on the soft line.
just to clarify do i put the extra straight fitting on the line from the pump to the drivers head or the hpx line? if i understood right when you move the pump line forward one hole it needs a straight fitting?
Your obs lines and obs hpx worked fine with your I/C right? i was looking at the kcm stainless one. i wasnt sure if the kcm obs line would contact an I/C spyder because the kcm is ridgid. but i might just go with a soft line like you have and not have to worry about it
after looking at some pictures for awhile i have an idea of what i want to do. I think im gonna move the drivers side line up one plug and put a straight end on it, and get a SD stainless line. it looks like it goes straight across on the third plug on both sides similar to the dieselsite one
just get the line for the OBS. i doubt any HPX will hit the intake spyder. you do have to use a straight fitting on the HPOP line when you move it forward then the HPX will use 2 other straight fittings IIRC, but whatever fittings they want you to use for the HPX will come with the line. just make sure you have the straight fitting for the HPOP line and your good. never looked, but doesn't the SD HPX go to 2 different ports than the OBS? i think it does. Roy has one at his house not doing anything, maybe i will run over and check it out.
on my 97, the hpx line didnt fit, i called the company i got it from and they told me it hooks up the same way as a SD, the extra fitting was in the box.
George, who made your HPX??? my dieselsite HPX goes straight from one side of the head to the other like all others do except the KCM and apparently yours. i'd rather have it go straight across. just looks better IMO, but they probably all work the same.
it goes straight accross, i had to move the hpop line one plug in the head foward. i dont remember who made it, but they sai that 97 and up had to do it this way
now that i think about it.... i had to take the hpop line off and flip it around to stop it from wanting to kink. because it has a 90 on noe side and a straight fitting on the other
Travis does yours go in the third oil plug back? if so the kcm SD version looks like a copy only in stainless version. it goes straight across as far as I can tell
Travis the obs kcm line goes #5 cyl to #4cyl just in front of the turbo, the sd 99 03.5 goes #5 cyl to #6cyl, it dips down under the turbo and will then clear the spider and pipes to the ic.
im pretty sure im gonna go with the SD one and obs lines unless roy wants to sell that one of his. thanks for all the info guys especially Travis much appreciated all

yeah i remembered looking at yours and seeing that it didnt' run straight across. thanks for the reminder!!
Andy, i'm kinda unsure why your wanting to get an SD setup???? i know your wanting to do the IC, but mine is a stainless braided line for an OBS and it goes straight across and fits with the IC just fine. i'm just having hell trying to remember how the SD line runs. i know it runs different than the OBS... Oh and yes, my line connects to the 3rd port on each side. the driver side HPOP line is usually in port 3 so you move it forward to port 2 using a straight fitting and ditching the 90* fitting.
Ok so i went back and looked at an old pic from when i did my fuel system. the OBS HPX line runs behind the intake spyder and straight across. anyone know how the SD HPX runs?? Personally i'd call Tymar and order their HPX kit. it's CHEAP, good quality, and comes with the extra straight fitting for the HPOP line. the Tymar line is a soft line, not a hard line.
