I'm looking at a 1989 Bronco II 4x4 with 170,000 miles on it. It seems in decent shape and I wanted to buy it and mess around with it on the beach and maybe sell it for a profit. How much would you pay for truck like this? The guy is asking a thousand and I want to sell it for two thousand or more, is it doable?

Go check New Cars, Used Cars, Blue Book Values & Car Prices - Kelley Blue Book. I would imagine private party is about $500. If a manual transmission I might do $700.
Automatic, then skip it unless you are a mechanic. It is do for an engine or transmission that will far exceed it's book value.
Plus, that year is lousy for off road because the newer aero headlamps and integrated marker lamps are expensive and a pain to replace because if the bucket breaks, you have to buy new or fiberglass it back together.
