u joint wrong size? 91 F250 and 95 F250 axles?

Well I run big issues. It drive fine. No vibration but was concerned about that gap from u joint to yoke it pretty loose.

I notice that new u joint I put was kind loose on yoke on the 91 F250 rear axle. But when it on 95 axle it was tight.

I check advanced they use same u joints.

But rear axle from 91 aren't stock it been change before. It was supposed to be 4.10 but it have 3.55.

are you talking about the bearing cap that is pressed into the yoke? or the cap that is in the pinon yoke held in by u-bolts? If its the latter, then u-bolts can stretch and make be causing it to be to loose. If its where its pressed in, it would just be worn out and loose, then you may need to have it replaced.

I do know that the 95 axle will have the long pinon which uses a different yoke then the 91 short pinon axle. And the u-joint should have to different size caps. The ones that press into the drive shaft will be smaller. and the one that are held into the pinon yoke will be larger.

Yes I notice that yoke from 95 are longer than 91 yoke

but rear axle where yoke to are shorter on 95 and 91's yoke to are longer.

Guy who replaced u joint for me.. I inspect it fit in driveshaft no loose.

I am think it same cap size. Where can I find one with bigger cap to yoke and smaller to driveshaft?

Sounds like the older axle may have come from a 460 or Diesel truck, which runs a 1350 joint, VS the smaller engines running a 1330F like a half ton.
Any good parts store should be able to get you the right crossover joint.

When I bought 91 F250. Guy told me that leaf spring been replaced but didn't say about rear axle.

When you check axle code on cab it say 4.10 so this one is 3.55. Could be come from diesel? But lug nuts on this one is twice bigger than lug nuts on 95 F250.

Which shop that have right cross over joints? o'Reily, Auto Zone, and Advanced are just plain in " " they was like what that ok let me search on computer. No I don't see on lists.

The yoke on the pinon should be a 1350 regardless of the engine. The yoke in the drive shaft might be a 1330. In that case you would need a 1330 to 1350 u-joint.

but it sound like you got a u-joint for a half-ton which uses a flange on the pinon and both bearing caps are 1330's.

1330 bearing cap size is 1.063in
1350 bearing cap size is 1.125in

there isnt much difference but its enough to make it loose.

It looks about right. Are the yoke straps/u-bolts as tight as they can be. they might be stretched out and not able to be tightened any more.

Take the bearing cap off carefully, making sure not to loose any or the needle bearings inside. Get the rest of the drive shaft out of the way and then test fit just the cap into the yoke and see how much play is between the actual yoke and the bearing cap(without the strap/u-bolt in the way). The cap should fit snugly against the yoke.

U joint and strap are brand new.

Old U joint were rust cause needle bearing gone after highway trip.

Strap were ROT so bad.

Old rear axle with 4.10 fit tight with new u joint but this rear axle with 3.55 fit u joint but loose.

Ok I try explain clearly again

I have annoy vibrant at 30-40 mph but it go away when go higher speed.

I am say that yoke on rear axle are bigger than original yoke. You could moving driveshaft up and down about 10-12 gauge that are too loose.

I heard that Spice offer u joint that have 2 different size. 2 cap smaller and 2 cap wider. Where can I get it?

Ya, it sounds like the yoke and u-joint are miss matched. I would find a good driveline shop in your area that you can go talk too. They should be able to tell you exactly what you need and will probably have it in stock.

Ok all local stores are idiot and tell me there are NO cross u joints. They never heard before.

I spend hour on spice catolog that EPNCSU2006 suggested.

Ok it seem that rear axle came from 89 F250.
part number 5-1204X It say size 1.062"&1.125"

when I try check 95 F250 NO info expect part number 5-1204X

I check 88-89 F350 part number is 5-1203X or 5-123X but it didn't say anything about size.

I am think that I got wrong u joint from 0'Reily but Strange it fit original rear axle.
