Some recent work...

Well first things first. A few weeks ago i ordered a new air filter housing and a new valve cover breather from summit racing. I think it was 30 dollars total and i feel it make it look much better and more clean. Heres the before and after.

The next thing i did was redo my exhaust system. Last year i cut off my cat and just threw in some pipes until i got the chance to weld them in. Well last sunday i was under neath my truck and noticed how simple it was to remove the exhaust system, so i ripped it out that after noon. This week i took it to my school to start welding. It was removed right beside the transmission where the pipe comes from the manifolds. I proceeded to weld in the pipes, then i decided i wanted to do something different. So i cut off the tips and bought some 45 degree turns from the auto store and welded them on so i could get my duals to come out the rear corners. So overall i have just pipes, no muffler and no cat. I'm real happy with the job i did on it, and now with the pipes welded in the exhaust sounds a bit more cleaner without any exhaust leaks. Great deep low tone to it in idle and sounds great drivin round town. Here tommorrow ill try and get a sound clip too put on here. Sorry didn't get any pictures, wasn't thinkin about it since i was in rush everyday after school trying to get it done before Ag teacher had to leave.

For some time now i've noticed the rear of my truck sat kind of low. Figuring it was a combination of old shocks, tired leaf springs and such i decided to put in a 2 inch block lift to level things out.For thirty bucks i figured it would be cheapest solution for now. But we did end up running into a few problems. Such as ruining two drill bits, exploding a light from hot slag from cutting torch, old stuck nuts on old U bolts that we cut off, and a towel we caught on fire....twice.... The biggest pain was from the little top on the lift block being to be and having to drill 1/4 inch into the overload leaf spring so it would seat properly. MAN! Those things are hardddd steel. Went through two good drill bits and a 1/2 quart of oil to get those done. The other problem was getting the nut off the pin that holds the springs together. Cause it would just turn. So our solution ended up by welding the bottom of it so it couldn't turn. Anyways overall it took us around 3-4 hours all in all. So not too bad. Heres some before and after pictures to show the difference. Ill get a good overall picture sometime soon! Just slowly gettin the beast to where i like her!

Also, anyone mind telling me what the can, thing behind it, and the thing to right is/does?? Thanks!!! P.S sorry for the super long post .

the can thing is a vacuum canister, the thing behind it is your heater box and blower motor, to the right it looks like someone removed the a/c.

Okay so the vaccum canister i could remove then? I have almost every other peice of the old smog equipment removed.

Yea, the old A/c unit didnt work so i removed it. What would be inside that black box area? Am i able to further remove that?

Thanks alot..

ALSO, i forgot to mention. The reason i found for my truck to be squatting some/and offset was because i found i have a broken leaf spring on the drivers side. When putting it all back together i decided to just put the broken peice back in there for spacing issues right now. But it seems ill be having to replace them in the near future. Btw, does anyone know the years i can bolt in swap for my truck? Thanks.

I don't recall where that vacuum canister is attached too, just make sure it does not go to something important you don't want to lose vacuum adn your truck won't run correctly. The black box is your heater and blower motor, so if you don't want heat or defrost you can remove it. I know the a/c trucks didn't have vents on the kick panels, so if you want more fresh air I'm pretty sure the hole is still there for the vent you just need to find the kick panle with the slider for the air, just a thought.
I've bought springs from here several times and have had good luck, but I see they no longer carry the leaf springs
Springs 'n Things
another choice and they don't seem like crazy prices

A correctly-connected factory air cleaner works lots better in the wintertime in cold climates, it
has plumbing to provide air warmed by the exhaust manifold (avoiding icing of the carb).

If im not mistaken i believe it just has a vaccum line that runs to a tri-mount on the firewall.

The black box on the right side of picture has the heater and motor? Im talking of the black box on right side where the a/c was? Am i able to remove that now that the a/c is gone?

the vacuum canister is used to store vacuum to aid in the operation of your a/c and heater controls. personally i wouldn't remove it.
your a/c box is usually one piece with your heater box. best bet would be to go to a junk yard and find a heater box for a truck that didn't have a/c.

The metal heating line running from the manifolds to carb and electric choke wont be enough for winter?

I'm pretty sure you will need that canister, there are other places you can stick it where it won't be in the way as much. I haven't a clue if the a/c can be removed seperatly, when I looked at my truck it appeared that I would need to change the whole heater box to a non a/c one, but I could be wrong.

This is why I said "a correctly connected" factory air cleaner.

Heater core & AC condenser, the soup-can sized thing is your heater/AC fan
motor.

Will do, thanks. It wouldn't hurt to relocate it to somewhere else if wanted would it?

You need the Vacuum canister. It's not an smog piece. It's like a Reservoir for extra vacuum, so when the motor is under acceleration and not making much vacuum your accessories still work properly.
