Body Mount Conclusions

OK, I have searched til I am blue in the face. Is there a definite fix for our squeeky body mounts or are there aftermarket ones available that solve the creeking? I have seen tons of threads on it, but one thing works for someone, and not the next person. I haven't seen any info on any aftermarket ones solving the problem either. After replacing shocks, sway bar end links and the tie rod end, the X is really tight and smooth, except for that frickin creaking! Need to get this solved!

I am right there with you. I thought I had it solved with the sway bar ends, but the creaking is still there. I cannot pinpoint to one thing. I am seriously thinking about just putting it all back together and just ignoring it. I am a technician by trade so this option just bugs the sh** out of me. I have tried the body mount fixes too, but to no avail. I hate taking vehicles to mechanics, but I would if they could fix this(not likely)!!

I had fixed my door rattle when I go over bumps. I put 3/8" OD vinyl tubing from Home Depot in the black weather stripping. Makes the door close tighter and no play. It sounds more solid.

The tubing from Lowes were stiffer and made it difficult to close the doors. After doing a couple of doors, I realized that all I needed to do was insert it on the upper and lower corners of the weather stripping where the door latch is and not all around. Putting it all around makes it difficult to shut the doors. As the temperature warms, it gets easier to close due to the softening of the vinyl.

Well, that's why most of the time I just turn up the radio, and ignore it! It's just embarrasing when someone wants to check out your vehicle and it squeeks and groans like some old pos. I am positive at this point that it is the body mounts.

I know the feeling... I have brought it to so many different shops, and they have disconnected swap bars , lubed etc.. and still get that weird strange creaking rattly sound. It only happens at slow speeds less than 20 or so. Truck sounds fine when going highway speeds. But when driving through local street and turning or stop and go --- yikes.

I checked the isolator in the front shocks and even added a heavy duty mat in between to see if that would help. It's a creaking sound that you cna actually feel under your feet when it knocks - but just can't duplicate. Replaced the links and all and still. At this point thinking it's the the springs ( or at least that's what I told the wife and justified getting new springs for all 4 corners - AKA a small lift out of it for ex.

Good luck finding a solution and let us know if it is the mounts when you find them. There seems to be alot of work involved in changing this many mounts ... Keep us all updated.

I seem to recall reading in this forum somewhere that there is a different body mount bolt that is on the newer X's that has a tapered shoulder on it (or doesnt have that shoulder) I can't remember exactly. Possibly something about shortening the bolt or just tightening it up or switching to the newer style... lube it... tighten.... ?

like I said I don't remember exactly what it was, but maybe it will help refresh someones memory. BTW this is for the body mount bolts directly under the driver and passenger's feet.

off topic - sambandit: lets meet up sometime and check out each other's rigs???
