hello,
i recently purchased a used transmission for my 92 7.3 idi. the guy said it only had 30k on a rebuild but i dont know if hes telling the truth or not. ok so i put it up and it shifts great works lie it should, then i looked and saw it was leaking inbetween the motor and transmission. i had a little trouble getting it in so i figured oops stupid me damaged a front seal. so i had it replaced at a reputable transmission shop around me and just finished putting it up and it still leaks. when its running its about a drip every 4 seconds or so. anyone have any ideas what could cause this????? im getting tired of pulling this transmission. also, i put in a new torque converter when i put the transmission in
yes it does have a drain plug but no it isnt leaking that was my first thought too. the inspection cover is off and i can put my hand alittle way up inbetween the torque converter and the transmission and feel the fluid on the inside of the bell housing
yes i did do that, i talked to the tranny guy today and he wants me to bring in the torque converter and hes going to put some air pressure on it, he thinks it may have a crack or bad weld on it thats causing it to leak, either that or the o ring on the pump has gone bad. so im going to bring the torque converter and the tranny to him and have him replace all seals/o rings and whatever in the front of the tranny and test the torque converter.
megashort,
just a suggestion to consider:
the B&M shift kit comes with a few things that goes in the front pump.i can't recall what they are right now,but it's something that opens up and allows more fluid through the pump, and or increases line pressure.
i didn't take my trans out,so i couldn't do this part to the pump.sometime, likely this coming winter when work dries up,im going to pull and install these upgrades to the pump.
anyway, since yours is out for repair right now.just thought id give ya the heads up on it in case ya wanted to grab the kit.maybe you already did this,i dunno.
also,if you find your pump is whats bad,i recall David85 (a well advanced E40D expert here.) says the 95 and up pumps are the best.
dang,if i know if these parts in the B&M shift kit, make it equal to them or what though.
anyway,so if you need a new pump,ya may want to grab the updated '95 + front pump.
just a few things to look into while she's out.
