Ok so I got offered to trade my 86 f150 for another truck and thought my truck was working good, but it died again as if it is not charging. I have replaced the altenator, battery, starter solinoid, starter, coil, head light wiring and fixed all the wiring going to the altenator, battery and starter solinoid. If I charge the battery it seems to hold its charge for a little while then slowly trickles down. I thought I had it working so when I started it it went up in voltage but didn't jump to 14 volts, it just slowly (15 minutes) trickled up to 14 volts. I'm at my wits end, if I can't figure this out I'm going to part the truck and take it in for scrap I've had enough. Thanks in advance for any help.
Is your dash guage lighting up when you turn the key but don't start the engine? The alternator light is the one I am talking about. In my 89 it looks like a little battery.
when i first got my truck one of my guages would NOT shut off and that was draining the batt - think it was the dummy lights but don't remember - have you checked those types of connections?
Yup, I've checked to make sure none of the lights stay on and checked the radio as well. I could be wrong, but it seems more like a charging problem then a battery drain problem. I also checked the grounds as well and changed the battery ground with no change.

my battery cables? I put brand new ones on and noticed no change. So I put the other ones back on as they didn't appear to be bad anyway.
i actually meant all of them - a short anywhere in your lines could "possibly" cause this problem. don't know how likely it is, but i have seen it before
I went through all 3000 miles of wire on this thing and fixed or replaced all the broken or rusty wires. I still might have missed something, This thing really has me baffled why it won't work, never again am I buying a fuel injected ford worst vehicle I've ever owned, spent more time under the hood then behind the wheel.
