I figured the plugs might be bad or something but I can not find an altenator wiring harness for this truck that has the correct plugs. Guess I don't know where to look.

the alt. should kick on right away so if it drops to 10.5 volts your regulator isn't working,he said might be a diode bad in alt, if you disconnect hot post on battery and use a test light between the two do you get anything?i'll try to help as i'm picking his mind

most the time when I dissconnect the battery the truck dies. so most likely time for another regulator and altenator? Really don't want to spend that much more money on this thing.

There are only two junkyards left near me and neither have trucks I can use parts off of. They pretty much only carry 1990 and newer stuff. I went through the wring again today with a wiring diagram. A couple things didn't match such as there are no fuseable links in this thing anywhere, not sure if the previous owner removed them or if it never had them. Also it shows there should be three wires coming out of the regulator and I only have two and it appears there never was a third wire, it looks like my plug never had it and don't see where it could hook to even if it had it. According to what I read it is some kind of sensing wiring that tells the thing when to charge. But I've had other altenators and they worked for awhile. So not sure if this latest regulator needs that extra wire? So that is the latest thing I found. Tomorrow I'm going to take apart every connector I can find under the hood to make sure nothing is corroded. And run my voltmeter on every wire to make sure the electricity is going where it is supposed to. I don't want to spend anymore time or money on this truck, but I've never had a vehicle I couldn't fix and am stubborn enough to go through this truck with a fine tooth comb to figure out whats going on, this truck will not defeat me

I would appreciate it very much, though I don't have much money. I need the alternator wiring harness from a I think it's 85-86 only EFI 302 auto. I will get better pictures today. The round plug is the type I can't find, the bottom of the alt is wired in, it does not unplug, and the regulator is internal and has the standard oval/rectangular 3 prong plug. And if you can see it, is the green and yellow wire plug, and from what I find its supposed to have three wires, but mine looks like it has always had two wires.

also what does this go to?

Well, I replaced all the unessicary connections to my altenator and it still won't charge. So my best guess is the brand new regulator does not work since the altenator tested good. Anyone know how to test an internal regulator?? I took the altenator out again, I'm about ready to put some speed nuts on this thing it has to come out so much. Thanks again for any help.

Did you ever check to see if you have voltage on the red/green wire with the key in run?

d'oh! I guess I'll do that tomorrow, I knew I missed something. I think I checked all the wires except that one now that I think about it. No big deal, I've master the art of removing and installing this altenator.

Not sure if I should fix the charging issue. Shortly after I got the truck I had a charging issue, then I fixed it, then the fuel system had problems, fixed that, then the charging system stopped working again, fixed that then the fuel system had problems again, fixed that then the charging system, then the windows, now the charging system, whats next? There still is plenty of stuff to break.

Well everything has checked out good, except the regulator. The alt and regulator have less than 500 miles, I thought Motorcraft parts were supposed to be better then the china crap, but I guess not. Now I'm in a dilema. I need to buy the regulator now and a few other parts to get it working perfectly which will be a total cost of around $600. I want to sell the truck, but after putting these parts into it I will make maybe $100 if I get the price I want for it. Or I could just sell it for 1/3 the price I want and just dump it. hmmmm I already have $1800 into the truck and was hoping to get $1500, these parts will put me at about $2500 invested and most likely still won't get more than $1500 for it. This is the third fuel injected Ford that has burned me out of the three I've owned, very frusterating.
