Today I am driving to work and the CEL comes on in my 2003 6.0, after work I stop by the autozone to get the code read and figure out the issue, when they plug in the ODBll scanner it will not read at all.
Anyone had this happen ? The autozone guy says he has seen this before and it is / was a fuse or a relay that has functions that related to the ODBll port.
Check the fuse for the cigar lighter. It's the same one for power to the OBDII port. Don't remember the number off the top of my head, but it's listed in your manual.
The scanner must be able to read CAN codes also. I was just at a local parts store. First scanner worked fine it said CAN-OBDII on it. He brought out a second one to test if it would read "live" PCM readings. It couldn't recognize the vehicle. It was OBDII only.

That would be true if the device didn't even power up. If it powered up, but couldn't read anything, then their device can't read the CAN protocal. To read our trucks, you have to have more sophisticated code readers. Even if theirs did read your truck's computer, it would more then likely just be pulling from the generic powertrain, which is typically emissions related only.
I have seen this before. As others have stated above, that scanner probably read the generic codes. A tool such as Autoenginuity with the Ford add-on does a much better job.
