I want to put a front receiver hitch on my 2008 F450 so we can carry two bicycles when were pulling our 5th wheel. Curt and Valley have hitches that are made for trucks that have frame rails measuring 34 inches outside to outside, my truck measures 38.5 inches outside to outside. I assume this has something to do with the wide track front end, or maybe not. Do I have a really special truck or do you other 450's have the same measurment. My truck is not a chassis cab.
Don't know if it will be a problem for the 450 or not but I ran into a fella in the Georgia mountains who had a front hitch on his 2001 F250 and it was causing an over heating issue under hard hot towing conditions. Just FWIW.
Thanks guy's for your answers. It doesn't look like it's going to be a problem simply because we can't find one made for the wider frame. The parts guys all say this will work but they clearly show 34 inches out side to out side on the frames.
Try looking under RV. Somebody makes one that is adjustable, I put one on my 5th wheel about 4 years ago. I think it's a valley but not sure but I remember I found it on line. It's a 2 inch receiver tube and the cross piece slides on the brackets which allows you to adjust the width. once adjusted the cross piece is tightened down to the brackets.
