Can`t help on price or availability of used trans.
I just changed mine. Shipping weight listed as 128 lbs but it seems to weigh a bit under 100 lbs. I got mine from Rebuilt manual transmissions, transmission parts and I felt like I got a good deal and they made it easy on me. Also, I just posted that they sent a unit that they upgraded from the rubber plugs that killed mine to steel freeze plugs. It took me about 8 hours start to finish, but I had done the clutch about two years ago and it was not a new adventure for me. Change the slave cylinder at the same time while you have the unit out.
I pulled mine by myself. Its a good idea to remove the trans tunnel to gain access to the top. Remove the cross member bolts and bell housing bolts then slid it backward from inside the cab and get the gap big enough to get your fingers inside the bell housing then pull it off and lower the front down. The take the cross member off and lower the rear. Easy.
Getting it back in will need a transmission jack and a friend. Its just hard to get it lined up by yourself
