Does anyone know if the horn bracket is a separate part from the horn and if it was used on any other Fords during the 73-79 years? I know my 78' has a empty spot for another horn on the core support on the driver side.
I thought it was one unit the horn is welded to the bracket last I remember. I had a 73 that had the dual horns and when I had to put her down and got my 78 it had one horn... so i moved the option to my new truck.
the 73 was a camper special XLT
the 78 was a ranger custom
the horn kit that I moved over came with a Y wire for the horn and the additional horn, it was a "plug and play" install.
the horns are a high and a low they bolt in the hole that you see on the cross-member
i just went out and looked, the bracket is spot welded to the horn. i did just what your thinking berry1234 and installed another horn on my drivers side of the core support.
The brackets are welded to the horns. Most of these trucks came from the factory with a single horn mounted on the right side, that was a "Lo" tone horn. There was an option offered for dual horns with the other one mounted on the left side, that one is the "Hi" tone horn. I just seen a set of dual horns for F-series trucks on fle-bay the other day complete with the stock wire harness. The dual horns sound like an old Buick or Cadillac. -Ed
