Ok, so my truck is a 96 f-150 4x4 with the 351. Last year it was giving me trouble but it's been running good for a while now since I replaced pretty much the entire ignition system lol

List of parts replaced...

Crankshaft position sensor
Ignition control module
Rebuilt distributor
Ignition coil
Fuel pump relay
New dist. cap and rotor

The truck runs great, idles great, has plenty of power and isn't throwing any codes. Although when it's warmed up and when I take off nice and slow the truck surges when I apply steady pressure on the gas at low speeds. Gets really annoying when your just trying to mosey around a parking lot or in a neighborhood. lol I've also noticed it spark knocking when I go up the big hill out on the highway coming home, but I ran some seafoam through the brake booster vacuum hose and that seems to have fixed the spark knock.

I was changing my oil the other day and I cranked it up for a minute to fill the filter up and when I shut it off, what I believe to be my EVR was buzzing like crazy for 4 or 5 seconds. I was wondering if that was normal and if it was going bad if it could be causing my surging acceleration.

A couple years ago it threw a code for the egr system and I replaced the DPFE and that code went away. Not sure if a bad EVR will throw a code tho.

 

When my EVR went bad, the truck had codes relating to the EGR. My EVR was applying vacuum all the time, maybe try pulling the vac hose off your EGR and seeing if it has vac at idle?

Low speed surging like that could be caused by EGR issues, IAC issues, MAF or MAP issues, etc. Maybe scan for codes, just in case. Nice truck, btw!
