I ordered the metal hiem joint/bushing off E-bay tonight in hopes that it will smooth out my shifting and ability to get my truck into gear.
How difficult of a job is this? I watched the video that was on the Ebay site that showed how to do this, but I wanted advice from guys that actually know what they are doing.
What about getting off the part that bolts to the shaft that goes through the pedal box?
I tryed to pry mine off when I did the pedal box bushings and could not do it with the box still in the truck.
I do think you have to get it off to remove the welded stud off of it so it can be replaced
with the bolt that will hold the hiem joint on. about to go through this myself
Hey Farm, you know about the pedal box bushings right?

That part you have to pry off is a bit stuborn but patience and persistance will get it off for sure. It is on a splined shaft so no worries about getting it back on exactly. Once you get ready to put it together put the heim joint on that lever and slip it on the master cylinder rod and snug it down a bit. be sure to get the rod all the way down in the joint. Then you can put that lever piece back on. It takes some cranking to get it threaded all the way back on. I guess an air ratchet might work good here.
The pedal box bushings can cause massive amounts of play when worn. Maybe more that the bushing on the clutch push rod. If the pushrod bushing looks ok you might want to look at the pedal box bushings. I had to push my clutch pedal all the way to the floor to get a shift off because the PB Bushings were shot and at the time the PR bushing was fine. I just started to have problems with the PR bushing last week.
I haven't worked on it yet. I'll probably have to default to this weekend when I put the clutch in.
I want to replace the master and slave cylinders as well, but I don't think I'll have time to do those this weekend. I'm probably going to wait on the hiem joint until I do the master cylinder.

the master and slave take less then 30 minutes combined to put it. and they arent very expensive.
I put some pretty good miles on it the week before I was contemplating that my pedal was getting weak. I finally had a buddy of mine depress the clutch pedal a couple times we determined that the pressure had some issues.
I ended replacing all of the hydraulics along with the hiem joint. The pedal feels great know and the clutch came back to life. I still had some issues getting it into reverse back that has cleared up as well.
I never did replace the clutch.... But on the good side we scored a big rig tranny jack for free because it settles out a little bit. Should be an easy fix.
The shaft it goes over is splined, but its a pressed on part. You press that lever onto the pedal. Mine actually didn't have the splines all the way pressed through. So whatever you do, make sure you line it up exactly before you tighten the bolt down, otherwise you'll have no clutch after a bit.
The best way to get the pedal adjusted right is to buy that part from ford and cut the end off on the bench and install it, then you can press the piece into place with the correct amount of freeplay, which my clutch doesn't have, because I had to get the splines to line up.
