I have found a 77' F250 4spd that is a 4x4, I am trying to find out what motors could be in this truck, I thought maybe it could be one of the ones for this post. I will tell you what I can about the engine that is in it. It has a Holley 4v carb that looks like a factory carb, The oil press. sending unit is mounted on top of the oil filter mounting place, It has headers, the thermostat housing comes out of the intake, andthe valve covers looked more narrow than the ones on my 351M. I think I can get the truck for $100 but I would like to know what kinda deal I'm getting, the body is junk but it would be neat to find out someone put a 428 in it or something. Thanks all who responds.
I doubt there is an FE in a 77, unless somebody did a transplant. Look for 5 bolts on the valve covers. If more, then you don't have an FE engine. I would suspect a 351/400 or 460 in a 77 F250.
But, your description does sound like an FE. I can't exclude the others, because I'm not that familiar with them.
FYI, the rear axle on that truck is probably worth $100! Not to mention a bunch of other pieces. Snag it!
If there is an adapter that the oil filter swrews onto and the Sending unit is on top of that adapter then The truck has an FE motor in it. If you look at the Intake manifold and the split between the head and the manifold is UNDER the valve cover then it is for sure an FE. I would have to guess if its a factory manifold and a Holley 4V factory carb its a 390
