I have a 65 F100 truck which needs some TLC. I have been driving a work truck and been busy and let this old beautie go south. Has anyone ever donated a truck? I would love to get the tax deduction or at least help an organization. I am one hour north of San Francisco if anyone has any ideas on donations. I don't want to send this one to the wrecker. Thanks,
I donated a truck before... to junk for jesus. it was a pile 0 crap mitzsubeshe mighty max. i got a 1400 dollar tax credit for it! i dont think you get much of a tax credit for old cars and trucks anymore.
Might try a local school or tech school; they could possible use it as a learning tool; might even beable to explain about the process of donation write off.
You might be betteer off sellling it. Let's say it's worth $1500. Assuming a 33% tax ratge, you'd save $500 in taxes. Just sell it for $500 to a member & be done with it. Audits suck.
or to me! I'm "non-profit". Not on purpose, it just seems to be turning out way
Seriously, you'd probably be better off (and easier for you and probably for the charity) by selling it to someone who would appreciate it and then make a cash donation of some of the proceeds to a worthy charity of your choice. Just my 2 cents worth.
Donation centers are different everywhere. Check around and see which one helps you.
Some will pick it up and take it to the dealers auction to sell with no reserve. Whatever it sells for is your tax deduction. Others have a form for an "A" donation or a "B" donation. The "A" is a flat 500 dollar deduction for you. The "B" you set a price on the car and they have to sell it for that price to give you the deduction. Some people are very unrealistic on their appraisal of their autos.
Also check the donation centers to see what they do with those donated dollars. Some use it for the soldiers and others use it to finance a drug and alcohol abuse center. The guys that work on the lot are usually patients that work selling the cars to finance their rehab. A friend of mine is the manager of one of these style donation centers. He is the only paid employee on the lot. I do not know how he keeps his sanity with some of these guys and customers, but he does.
