I have a 1966 Ford F100 pick-up with 92,000 original miles. The steering box quickly became tight and hard to steer. Now the steering wheel turns almost a complete 360 degrees (easily) before the wheels turn with much effort. Obviously somthing is broken and I've stopped driving the '66. Are steering boxes a common problem with these old trucks? Are replacement steering boxes available? Any suggestions?
My truck has manual steering. The rag joint is completely in tact and you can see the steering box input shaft turning with no movement from the pitman arm.
