Ok guys I got one for you. I just turned 16 got my grant steering wheel for the old girl and the horn won't blow. To tell the truth I could care less if it works but my mama keeps tellin me to fix it. To my knowledge i installed everything correctly and its like the horn when u push it, its not completing the circuit. It is painted black
You painted it black? Provided that you wired the thing correctly and the horn is functional, the paint does not conduct electricity, and you cant get a good ground. Without the ground, the horn wont work.
Ok, then you have to make sure that the wire from the column that goes through the adapter is functional. You can test this by removing the horn button, and disconnecting this wire and touching it to a known good ground. Usually the center shaft is adequate.
If this checks out ok, then you have a problem with the horn pad assembly. Check the instructions and verify that you have the spring and wire connected to the correct terminal. I believe there are two.
The three bolts in the middle should create the ground, also make sire that the fiber plate is not upside down. It can fit both ways I think, and the horn button wil still snap on there.
Does the horn button feel right when you push it?
Maybe pop the horn button off and take a pic. Usually this can be identified fairly easily.
Mine had a foil ring sticker that I had to put on for the reason stated above. Was there a foil sticker with your wheel or install kit? Im 80% sure it came with the install kit!
I don't have the black one, but I have a grant wheel. I had to scratch some of the paint off under the horn button so that it would get a good ground.
As stated above make sure the metal side of the disk that the horn button attaches too is down.
Actually the horn should have been blowing like crazy while you were putting the horn button on, because you have to push down and twist to get it to lock on the disk. At least thats the way mine is.
Whenever I have taken my steering wheel off I have to disconnect the horn under the hood to keep it from blowing when attaching and taking off the button from the center of the steering wheel.
I just installed a black grant wheel in my 91 F350 and have the same issue. I even installed the metal disk and it didnt do anything. I took 3 1/4 thin washers and put them to hold the contact disk to the wheel. The stupid contact disk keeps the bolts from making the ground. The washers connected the bolts to the rest of the disk. Then the horn blew like crazy when I tried to put cap on. Grant instructions are garbage.
