Expedition HP

I want to get more power from my 97 4.6 expy. So far I have a AirRaid intake and I also replaced the stock muffler with a nice Turbo Muffler, sounds OK. I am looking at some shorty headers and a Gibson Cat back system. Would that setup be really loud?? How much of a pain is it to install the headers?? Also what would an intake spacer do for me?? And where exactly would I get one. I dont want to get a Computer Chip as Premium gas is hard to find in the middle of Nebraska so thats out. Also what would the HP be with some of the above mods. Lots of ? but hey this form is new to me.

The last form I was on was miata.net Yes a had a miata, I installed a turbo on it and last year it dynoed at 185 HP so dont laugh 0-60 4.3 sec. But now I sold it and I want more power from my Old Expedition. http://communities.msn.com/MIATA1993

I hope this form is as active as the miata form!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the forum, I hope the guys here can help you.

My 2 cents worth, if your not going to chip it, don't bother with the headers. The headers will "scavange" the exhaust out, make her possibly run a little lean, a chip will fix that as well as help produce more power when used in together. Also headers are pretty involved for the 10 or so HP that you may get. If headers was to be the only exhaust system upgrade skip them, you could likily get the 10 or so HP from a good CAT back system for less money and install hassle.

As for the Intake Spacer, save your money, the only thing these seem to bring to the party is a intake whistle noise, no noticable gain in hp or torque.

This site sells Diablo chips and they can custom program them for you (click on the link at the Home Page). I bet they can do you a chip for "Mid Grade Unl" but if it were me I'd go all the way and just find a station that has a good supply of "Premium" I'm holding out on any more upgrades at this time as my plans are to add a Supercharger when the remainder of the factory warranty runs out in Sept 02.

Good luck

Petrol

Ok I am new to this form but 1 responce, Why bother coming to this web site, come on people. And adding a set of headers will never ever cause a lean condition, simply not posible. Yes headers do scavange more exhaust from the engine, that simply makes more room for the incoming Fuel/Air mixture, makes for a cleaned burn more HP etc etc etc.

Put a chip in it. I've been in Nebraska, premium gas isn't that hard to find. Especially in Omaha. It's the simplist way to increase your HP.
