When i start the truck the charge gauge stays at about 1/4 of the ways up,alternator not charging with volt meter, after about 30 seconds or so the meter jumps up and the alternator is charging again. This happens everytime i shut the mator off,do you think this could be the built in regulator problem,or maybe bad connection or alternator just on its way out.
Thanks Jim
What you are saying is the glow plugs will pull down the voltage ,even with the alternator working.Guess i never noticed this before even with my other truck that i sold ,95 f350 7.3.
Thanks guys,saved me some money.

It's normal, don't worry about it. When the EOT gets to 130* or above the GPR will stop cycling on start up.
