Ok I have done all my wits can let me do. Traced wires from batteries to connections replaced alt.(was bad)checked all fuses checked starter checked batteries. But it still is doing the same thing.
When I turn on the key all is normal.
Then it kills everything and comes back on dim.
The reverse sensor light comes on and stays on,the theft light keeps flashing, and it won't start.
So I fidget with the key,tap the brakes or turn on the lights and it will crank over hard.
To me it sounds like a short somewhere but im no electrician by no means at all. So should I take it to a shop(PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME)or has any of this happened to any of you.
Oh by the way it always starts except when the alt went totally out last friday.

did you check your wiring to the alt? if it started fine before you replaced it take off the wiring and plug everythign back in, make sure nothing got on the connector in the back of the alt. clean your bat terminals and reseat them on the poles. just make sure you dont drop the wrench by accident when you are doing this or youll think someone started welding them when you blinked(learned this the hard way)
Yeah I have traced all wires, cleaned the posts and connectors. Once I put in the new alt it worked perfect for 3 days and now its doing it again. Like there is a draw on the alt or something. Maybe it's the key switch lord who knows.

and it wont start at all unless you go through that brake-light routine even though the batts are fully charged?
gee idk man, hopefully someone else will chime in soon
Yeah I have to fidget with stuff to do whatever it is I need to do. It's got me baffeled. Oh and there is some knid of air compressor under the hood on the passenger side mid fender that stayed on my whole trip home tonight. Weird

Sounds to me like it isn't getting a good ground. When you did the lift, did you remove a wire that connected the body to the frame? There should be a couple of these wires, one on the cab and one on the bed. I don't know where they are, but I do know you have to have them. There should also be a wire going from the engine block to the frame for a good ground. Both battery ground wires go to the engine.
Last week. They are interstates and new june last year. It always has power to light up the head lights just ugh I don't know that's why i'm thinking short or maybe the switch. Going t go out and start checking grounds here in a minute. If I can ever get away from this addicting site.
This definately sounds like the grounds between the cab and frame. The puzzle is stepping on the brake for a start. Then again, it may be just enough to ground it. Ford is crazy with their wiring. A lot of shortcuts that should not be there, but those shortcuts probably saves them a few dollars per harness and that adds up. Wnat to see a mess. Look behind your dash. It looks like a tequila hangover.
With the dash lights doing funny things, along with the fact it will start with your foot on the brake tells me that something is trying to get its ground through another source besides the frame or body. Also, make sure the starter is tight. Not uncommon for starters on diesels to vibrate loose.
Only did that one time. To this day the smell of it makes me sick. I can however drink margaritas.
I can handle tequila, just not the after affects. I wne to a tequila party and believe me, it was a shot party.
THe next day at work, I got two different orders, stay the hell away from security and my punishment for the hangover, I had to wear a respirator all day. No more tequila parties for a while.
