This canister is mounted on the passenger side, outboard side of the frame, right behind the front tire. It has some lines that look like they run into the cab but I havent had much chance to really look into it yet. It has a rockguard in front of it and on the bottom, what is it? BTW it is a 1976 F-100 4x4
Quite a few canisters mounted on or under these trucks, but the one I believe you are asking about is a charcoal canister which is an emissions device. Lines are tied to the fuel system. Return vapor and what not. (technical terms)
They are expensive too...depending on your vehicle...was looking around the other day, just to have something to do...and WOW! I was not expecting the price tags...

Thanks, its been over 24 years since I've owned a dentside, I had a 73 and two 79s, all 2wd but I dont recall ever seeing a canister in this location or quite like this one. I remember the folgers coffee cans under the hood though lol
I think hes right . The charcoal filter is part of the smog control crap. The first thing I do when I get a different one is plumb around it , rip out all that stuff and throw it away. Very few of them that I get are hooked up and working anyway.
Whats the one that looks like a coffee can for ? It has a vac. line to it, my bronco had one . The f-100 I have has had all that stuff removed , saving me the trouble.
the charcoil canister is not just junk, on the trucks that vent out of the top of the fuel tank the vent line runs through it so the truck dont smell like gas all the time when it venting pressure out of the tank
Any chance of those cannisters getting clogged for some reason?Could the vent valve on top of the gas tank get clogged or go bad?I'm having issues with gas coming out from around the gas cap if I put a half tank of gas in it when going around a right hand turn.tried new gas caps too.problem still there.Any body got any ideas on this.'74 F-100 S.B.,aft mounted tank with gas cap on outside of bed.
i did away with all the emission control crap on my rig, theres a lot of canisters on the passenger side floor though... i believe they originally contained beer
I am in the process of hooking the charcoal canister back up. The canister and fuel line is in place to the tank. I was able to find the fitting for the air cleaner last week but haven't found the 3/4" hose from the canister to the aircleaner. Called ford and no one in the country has one. Napa was supposed to have one, but they said only have one in 28" which isn't long enough. Might have to use 2 somehow. Any idea were one might find a hose? Just thought it would look nice to have everything hooked up and working. Mine's a 77 F100 302 Explorer
