Nice. Those rear springs look thicker/beefier than the older trucks.

Thanks a bunch for the honest review and updates!

So, do I understand you correctly that this truck holds its own against the V10s *without* you working any of your magic? And that you're main points of concern are the stock hift strategies?

The best news for me (being that I'm happy with my 5.4L) is that I'm going to be overly happy with the 6.2L when the time comes.

Hi 1975StroppeBaja
The 6.2L does not have the torque down low as the v10 but it seems to make up for it up top in the rpm range and i think the biggest factor is the new tranny and its gear ratios. When it drops to 3rd it just pulls and pulls. I towed about 900 miles in stock form heading down to SCT and back and it did well pulling about 5k (stang & trailer) Shift strategies ,drive by wire, fuel tables are the main areas of enhancement so far in our tuning development. Addressing these areas has made the truck come alive.
Oh and when the time comes you would be very happy with the 6.2L

Update 2nd Tow

Update! Went camping this weekend with the family, wife and 2 daughters 13 & 9. Got a good feel for how the truck and 6.2L / 6 speed does towing our 10k lb. 5ver. Round trip was 190 miles of flat mostly 2 lane roads with the max posted limit of 55/60 mph. I am still impressed in how comfortable and quiet this truck is when driving. Not a rattle or squeak. Our truck has the optional 4.30 gear set from Ford and I was able to hold 6th gear with this load 95% of the time. My 2 cents here get the 4.30 gear set if you plan on towing at or around 10k plus in weight.

When accelerating to pass another vehicle; once you drop to 4th or 3rd gears the load starts to move really well. And when it drops to 2nd gear the 6.2L just screams as if you were going down the ¼ mile at the drag strip. (It really does scream) When accelerating from a stop you can really tell how low 1st gear really is because it does not stay in 1st long and you’re in 2nd before you know it. Went through about 20 miles of construction where I had to lock out 6th gear; which was nice, as speeds seemed to be between 5th and 6th gears. Gas mileage was 8.8 to 9.4 mpg and I was not easy on the go pedal.

Overall still impressed with the complete package Ford has to offer in the 6.2L/6 speed Super Duty. However, I would like to be able hook up a larger load to really push the max limits of this truck of 15k. Maybe I can find one to borrow down the road.

Update 93 Perf Calibration

A little update. We have been working our 93 performance calibration since we returned back from our 2nd tow. Been driving certain road test loops on a daily basis.

Today put the truck back on the dyno to confirm what i can feel on the road more power. Interesting thing the dyno graph does not show is the big improvements from tip in to 2500 rpms in torque with this 93 tune. (graph is at WOT but no one drives around at WOT all day not even me) The graph just does not do justice as to the improvement in this area.

Overall truck has been running great, wife is driving it to... she even brought home a load of sod for me to unload last weekend... Only complaint i have with the truck is the grill likes to eat bugs...

Small update

Was able to get a tad more on the 93 performance tune today. Broke the 280 mark in hp and 300 mark in ftlb torque at the wheel..

Hi Bill
Thats a safe limit currently. Just to give you an idea the knock sensor on that 280 run was at zero to .300 for advance. The knock sensors in these trucks are very good from what i am seeing.
The big improvement that the graph does not show with this 93 calibration is from tip in to 2500 rpms in the troque area.. almost v10 ish from a butt dyno stand point

So its riding the knock senors. How much can the 6.2s ECM pull it back based on the knock sensor? I think the V10s it could only pull 4 degrees out of it.

Stock tables are -10 retard and between 19 and 10 degrees advance depending on rpm range. In the 87 tune its advancing as much as 6 to 7 degrees in certain rpm ranges.

Smile ordering 2011 Super Duty

Great Site with lots of info. I am at the point of ordering my new Ford. I am going with the 3:73 elock diff. I saw the great video and made me think twice regarding the 3:73!
I am ordering a F-250 Crew Cab 4X4 Lariat Long box, with the 6.2 liter gas. I drive mostly city to work but also do a lot of freeway driving. I pull our 8040 pound empty or 9800 pound loaded 5er about 3000 miles a year. So I am looking for fuel economy and know that when pulling the 5er I will get less economy. I am also ordering the Fifth Wheel/Gooseneck package. Will I get what I hope for fuel wise or be dissapointed that I didn't get the 4:30 rear diff? Harold

Hey harold, just towed last weekend with my 3.73 elock 6.2L F350 cc lb 4x4. Short trip, but dropped down 4000 ft elevation and back. Towed 7000 empty 10000 lb Nash travel trailer, probably weighed 8k or so. Towing was just fine, got average 8.5 or so mpg. Poorer fuel economy than my old 6.0L diesel, and power a tad less, but I, like you only tow maybe 4000 miles a year, rest is much lighter. Happy with my combo. I get 13ish around town. If you were towing twice as much miles, I would go 4.30.
