I've always been a huge Ford truck fan, I own 4 pickup trucks: 77 F250, 84 F250, 84 F150, and a 96 F150... all 4x4s. I recently picked up a 79 Bronco that the previous owner mangled up, the front axle is shaped like a smilely face. It has a pretty healthy 460, (obviously not original) C6 with the NP205 t-case. I plan on stuffing another set of axles I have under it and installing a 4" or 6" suspension lift along with a set of 35x12.50 Mickey Thompson Baja Claws. The body isn't perfect but the floors are all pretty solid, I have something to work with. I plan on setting it up to do a little of everything when it comes to 4 wheeling. Something I can go beat up on all those ritzy Jeep guys with. It should a lot of fun, I can't wait to get it up and going again.
Sorry guys no pics yet, I have been putting some long nights in at the shop trying to get the ol girl back up and going again. So far I got the engine running much better, had to replace the oil pan... the front axle did a number on it. Ordered up a 6" Superlift suspension system from JBG, some of the stuff is still on back order. I got a pretty good deal on a used set of 37" SSRs for it, and I am stuffing a different set of axles under it. At least for the time being I plan to run a D44 up front with 4.88 gears and a Dana Powerloc; and a 9" with 4.88s and a full spool. I am a little unsure of how the a 1/2 ton stuff is going to like the big block with 37s. I do a have a Dana 60/70 combo lined up to go in there eventually. Last night I flushed the cooling system, installed a reconditioned radiator, and an auxilary trans cooler. Next I plan on flushing the trans and replacing the fluid and filter; also a new set of rad hoses and trans cooler lines. My number one focus at the moment is to get all the fluids changed out and make sure the Bronco is going to be safe and reliable.
I think it's going to be a blast, I had it up and going under it's own power this past weekend. I am still waiting on getting my new leaf packs I ordered for the rear, so it still has the stock 3.55 rear end in it. I cut the fender wells out to give the 37s a little more room, they were rusted out anyway. I couldn't resist bolting the 37s on to see how it's going to sit... so for those of you who are wondering; yes you can fit 37s (at least in the rear) on a stock height 78-79 Bronco however it does require some surgery. I have to admit it does look a little silly with a 6" lift in the front and stock height in the rear. I couldn't resist taking it out for a little joy ride down the driveway. I got warmed up and running really good, I thought a few low range/ 2wd hole shots might be fun. After about 3 or 4 of them babies the rear end started making some all too familiar crunching noises. Yeah I know... way to go dummy! I have to say for a pretty much stock 460, she feels pretty strong. I pretty much have all the mechanical stuff... motor and tranny squared away. I started building bumpers for it last night. It's getting closer I will keep you all updated on the progress, hopefully get some pics in here too.
