Hey guys/gals, I need to get a new battery for Pegysu before the PF show. Since she sits most of the time and all, I was thinkin about gettin an Optima battery. Any thoughts on them? Are they worth the extra money? Mine is still under the floor and a real pain to get to for service or changing or any kind of service. Thanks for any help guys.
I had terrible experience with Optimas, they would go bad every 6 months. I have had good luck with a regular Duralast battery, or even better, get a Diehard from Sears. The best IMO.
I run a 6v Optima in my Airflow. I bought one a few years ago. It went bad because I kept jumping it with 12v as the car wouldn't crank over fast enough. This wasn't because of the Optima battery. It was because I had bad wiring in the car. I had the wiring replaced and then had the battery replaced due to the lifetime warranty on it. Now, I have no problems starting up the Airlow even after a few months of sitting.
I even went out and bought two more 6v Optima batteries. One for the 52 and the other for the 51.
I also have a 12v Marine Optima in my trailer to run the winch and aux lights. It's been sitting there for a few years now as well. No issues, so far.
I am very fond of Optimas for vehicles that sit a lot of the time. Buy a trickle charger/battery minder made specifically for optima type batteries and plug it in whenever the truck is sitting (you can install it under the seat) no worry about overcharging. That's the setup I have in the race car trailer with the Optima red top.
If your battery has to sit, whether it's in your truck, boat or motorcycle, the best deal is the "Battery Tender". It will keep the battery charged and not overcharge it. Cheap insurance for an expensive battery.
Optima batteries - THE H.A.M.B.
read this post about Optima batteries...I have had go luck with my , but the new ones are made in Mex.
No misrepresentation. Here are your quotes. Your words, not mine.
Here are the facts.
1. Many of us HAD older Optimas that were fine
2. Many folks here have had issues with Optimas made in the last 5 or so years.
3. Optima treated Denise and others pretty shabby with their customer service.
4. We are starting to see quality come up but it is unproven at this point.
I don't have any experience with the Optima batteries. I've been toying with trying one though.
I've had good luck with the AC Delco, Duralast, and the ProStart (used to be made by AC Delco) batteries. I dislike DieHards and would not buy one for any reason....EVER.
I have an Exide Orbital in my '49. It is sealed like an Optima. Truck sits several weeks and starts OK. I have it behind the seat, so no fumes from it. The only problem with it is it is $$$.

I've never heard of them, who makes them and where do you get them. How much are they?
I was thinkin about an Interstate battery, since they are sold locally and I can get them taken care of locally at the parts house and such. I hate to deal with "out of town" folks.
I have a lot of experience with optima's, we use nothing but the red and yellow tops for our generators here at work. They can sit for a long time without losing thier charge, and they have great cranking power. These generators have 7.9L and 12.8L diesels in them and we rarely ever change a battery. I personally haven't noticed a decline in quality, and we have 30-40 of them on hand on any given day. If you're going to spend money on a good battery, i'd go for the optima.
