Fuel Pressure
Going back just a little the truck went out of warranty via the 5 year claus in Dec. Just before I took it in and asked the dealer ship to go over it with a fine tooth comb for the $100 bucks. Told them that I was having what I felt were extended crank times about 3 seconds or so and was worried about it. They called me and said I had a oil leak which was wierd since I never had a drop in the driveway (weeped a little but never dripped) but they said it would be about $2200 if I had it done out of warranty so I let them change out the seals. When I picked up the truck I asked them if they found anything else like with the hard start and they all the checks where good.
So back to the fuel pressure it was about 48 -49 psi took it out and at WOT it dropped to just above 40. So my next plan was to go for the AG regulator kit and try it out and fuel filters they only have 3,000 on them but that doesn't mean anything I guess.
So I called the dealership to order the AG kit and they said 79 bucks so I asked to talk to the service manager to see if I could get him to bring it down a little and ask him how it worked out I was complaining about hard starts and they checked it all out and here I am a couple of month later with less than 50 psi fuel pressure. Didn't they check the fuel system? I mean hard starts you think you would Diag the fuel system.
Well he said bring it in and I said its out of warranty and he said no problem would do it as a good faith deal, he would put the AG kit in and if that didn't bring it up he would find it. He said a lot of HFCM's going out lately so $100 doesn't sound bad if I need a HFCM, filters or other parts and get the AG kit I wanted without getting my knuckles skinned.
So a couple of questions about the fuel system.
1. The secondary fuel filter housing center post is spring loaded and it seems to be pretty rough as far as its operation. Seems to catch when you depress it maybe this is normal. The fuel filter dealership installed looked like it was twisted like they didn't install it properly (read post on how to install properly) or maybe this post is a problem. What exactly to this center post do what is its purpose and should catch when you try to depress it?
2. Should the fuel pressure immediatly drop when you shut it down or fall slowly.
Thank for any imput want to make sure I get everything possible while looking the gift horse in the mouth.
Sorry for the long read.
the fuel system as designed will drop pressure off pretty quickly so that is normal.
also if you are useing a wix filter (black tops and bottoms with yellow pleets) they tend to have an excessive amount of restriction from the get go.
