Engine will fire up and run. Every now and then it will just shut off. Have put new alternator and replaced IDM. These are the codes it pulled tonight P0608, B1352,P1876, and B2425. Im going to replace cam sensor tomorrow..Has anybody experienced this problem? Any body have any thoughts to share.
thanks
What are you using to pull the codes? Neither one of those P codes show up in my manual? Not all code readers work with our engines. Maybe you need a better code reader?
When it does shut off, does it cough or sputter, or is it like someone just turned the key off? Do any dash lights flash or stay on when it stalls? Does it always start right back up, or do you have to wait a bit? Can you put it in neutral and restart while still rolling? Does it always shut off at the same situation (red light, bumpy road, cruise control on the highway, heavy acceleration)? Got a chip or other modifications to the truck?
No Engine Mods. Lift and cosmetic. I wont drive it anywhere as of right now. When I turn the truck on it will idle and sounds great then will just shut down like someone turned the key.. Sometimes it sounds like its starving or something like that...like its trying to keep going. The SES light only comes on when it shuts off..Then I think everything lights up. It will usually fire right up. Time after time.. Right after it shuts down.. The last three times I started it this evening it idled for a few minutes before cutting out. The last time it stayed on for a while until i eventually turned it off myself. Thats where Im at to this point.
CPS sounds like a good place to start to me too. Just make sure it's from Ford or International. Too many problems with the ones from the parts stores.
Im guilty. I picked one up from the Parts store.. I will take it back if you guys think so. Is the original a actual ford OEM part?Or Is it a Delco? Where can I find the ones you are recommending other than the dealer? When i was at the auto store the guy had a Delco and the one I purchased which is a BWD. Can you use too much dieletric grease?
You need to buy one from Ford or International. The parts stores don't sell OEM ones. All the other aftermarket stuff seems to work fine, but the CPS just doesn't.
The dealer ones are your best bet - they are grey in color. If you installed the autopart's store generic CPS already and there is no change in the way its stalling, then it's probably not the CPS.
So I changed the CPS this morning.... As soon as I fired the truck up it turned off 5-10 seconds later. Restarted it and I drove it for about 5 minutes. It never turned back off but my SES light and dash lights flashed for a split second one time I was getting on it. After that i have driven about 30 more minutes today with no problems.. I still am nervous about it. I even stopped by an auto parts store to see if it would pick up any codes.. They didnt. I know its not a great computer. What do you think i should do from here? Or how should i proceed..
thanks
Check the connection on the CPS and make sure it's seated good. How long did it used to take until the problems showed up? This is one of those things we'll just have to wait and see.
Yeah. The first thing i did was check to make sure the cps connection was tight. Basically I am trying to figure out if I should take it into a shop to have a computer hooked back up to it or keep driving it to see if something goes wrong. Will any codes be pulled if the engine light is not on?
There's a possibility that there are codes present, but odds are you would need to clear them to see what showed back up. Might as well just unhook both batteries for about 15 min. and clear the codes yourself. That way if you have to get the codes pulled later, at least you know they're current.
So after I got the truck back from the dealer twice!! Me and a friend replaced crankshaft sensor.. Truck ran good for a few days then wham! Started hesitating cutting off again. took it in to a new shop and within 3 hours of my truck being there they called me and said I have a loose wire going to the engine from my IDM. The fixed it and no problems since.... The only problem I have is that I took it to the dealership and they tried to bang me for a NEW IDM module, alternator and held my truck for 3 weeks to find out it was a broken wire... Dirty.. Very Dirty
