ok so heres my situation. i have a 460 d1ve block sitting in my storage shed. installed on that engine is a double roller timing chain(came with the engine) with a bunch of timing marks a2, a4, a6, a8, 0, r2, r4, r6, r8. now iv been wanting to get a new timing chain for my truck the 83 f350 and i was wondering what would be the best degree to set it at? right now the 460 in the storage shed is on a2 should i put it in my truck that way? oh forgot to mention the 460 in my truck is pretty much stock besided a cherrybomb muffler edelbrock air filter accell coil and bosch platinum 2 plugs. thanks
well like i said i have the double roller adjustable sitting on another engine. the guy i bought it from claims its never been used....that he bought it while building the engine. so i was thinking of using it i just dont know where to set it. straight up at zero or advance it 2 deg or 4 deg
Don't these motors come from the factory 7-8 degrees retarded for emissions? I'm not the resident expert, but someone advised me to go with that particular set-up and I was really impressed at the difference it made from the stock setup. Maybe what BEAR suggested will have the same effect. But going off what I know, that would still leave your motor 3-4 degrees R.
