PCV VALVE CHANGE ISSUE

LEAVE IT TO FORD TO MAKE YOU BUY A COMPLETE VALVE COVER ASSEMBLY JUST TO GET A NEW PCV VALVE. YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!!

I KNOW MINE IS GOOD AFTER I CLEANED IT OUT BUT THE ISSUE IS HOW CAN FORD BE ALLOWED TO GET A AWAY WITH CHARGING CUSTOMERS OVER $100 FOR A PCV CHANGE. I VERIFIED THIS WITH TWO LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIPS AFTER CHECKING WITH ADVANCE AUTO, AUTO ZONE AND A FEW OTHER MAJOR PARTS DEALERS WHO DID NOT EVEN HAVE A LISTING FOR THE PCV VALVE. NOW I KNOW WHY.

ANOTHER TIME MY THIRD BRAKE LIGHT HAD BEEN LEAKING. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD I HAD TO BUY THE COMPLETE LIGHT ASSEMBLY $65 IN ORDER TO GET A $5 GASKET. I MADE MY OWN AND SOLVED MY PROBLEM.

LASTLY MY WIPER COWLING ASSEMBLY IS A TWO PIECE UNIT WHICH HAS THESE RUBBER PIECES THAT ARE FITTED INSIDE THE COWLING ENDS. THEY WERE SHOT. THE FINGERS THAT HOLD THEM HAD BECOME BRITTLE AND LITERALLY FELL APART IN MY HANDS. CALLED DEALERSHIP AND HERE WE GO AGAIN. ONLY WAY TO BUY THESE PIECES IS TO BUY THE COMPLETE COWLING ASSEMBLY $150.

I DID CALL ANOTHER MOTOR COMPANY, OUT OF CURIOSITY, ON A NEWER VEHICLE 2009 AND THEY SOLD THE PCV VALVE $9.99. SO NOT ALL COMPANIES ARE DOING THIS ON THIS CONSUMABLE REPLACEMENT ITEM.

ANYWAY JUST WANTED TO SHARE MY GREAT ADVENTURES AND IF ANYONE ELSE HAS HAD ISSUES ON PARTS AS WELL.

Hey Nassty, I always seem to lock my caps on. I'll work on correcting that issue.

I found a similar thing when I purchased a bed extender from ebal and needed the mounting hardware (2 pivot bolts and 4 plastic grommets). For the '04-08 they seemed only to offer the entire bed extender kit, for a mere ~$450-500. Funny how they offered the mounting kit separately for the pre-'04 models, and turns out it is exactly the same parts! Just gotta know and get the right part numbers.

Who would have thought. What's so special about the one that comes on the truck? If it went bad, and had to be replaced, could it be blocked off and then punch a hole in the valve cover, add a grommet and then use an over the counter pcv valve? Just like the third brake light gasket, you got around the rip-off. What are you going to do about the wiper cowling? Could you use some silicone sealer to hold it down?

Oldguy4 first of all this PCV is mounted on the intake manifold secured by two bolts. Second it is recommended to be replaced at 60,000 miles. There is many things I can do but the point I made was that this being a maintenance item should not cost a consumer a complete valve cover assembly in order to just replace a $5.00 valve. I cleaned it and it is working, but has 60,000 miles on it.

I cleaned up the cowlings and painted them. They look great. I will live without the ruber ends until I can assess if they cause any problems due to wind noise or what ever. They still look OK without them. I may possibly try and fabricate some with soft plastic or hard rubber. But i'll see how it turns out first. I am fighting a water issue right now, that once fixed, I'll be able to install the cowlings and go from there.

sparky,

I have the same issue with the cowl ends. I asked at the dealer and they could barely figure out that you had to buy the whole cowl sets to get the ends.

I was trying to think of a way to fabricate the pieces, if I come up with something, I'll let you know.

Is the 4.6l pcv in the same location and cost to replace? I hope not!

Talking Anyone still looking for the Cowl End Pieces?

First let me say I know how old this thread is so don't make fun of me for posting on a 4 year old page. Second I signed up here just to put this info out there in case it is not already. I stumbled across this page looking for PCV valve info, and saw people in a situation with their cowl ends that I was also in last year. Through another forum I found the answer! Home - COWL ENDS rubber end pieces for windshield wiper cowl on 2004-2008 Ford F-150 and Lincoln Mark LT trucks_files
He sells only one thing, the 2 rubber pieces (cowl ends) for the 2004-2008 Ford F150, that's it! Great prices, fast shipping, and the last time I checked (1+years) he was selling them on eBay as well.
So incase you did not know, and you find this post on purpose, or on accident, I hope it helps someone!!

Cheers!
