Hopefully it works for you. I just let mine idle and warm up after changing
the ECT and tried starting it five or six times while warm just to make sure it worked. The initial start did have a rich smell because of the last time I tried to start it before I changed the sensor, residual fuel still in the engine. But as I said before,I changed a bunch of stuff that could have caused the problem with no luck before changing the ECT.
Good Luck.

...didn't change a thing! Still starting hard, still flooding out. IAT is next (I think that's what it is anyway....the one on the intake). Hopefully something works soon! Correction...it's the ACT, not IAT.

I changed my ACT also but did not help. But like I said there are several things that cause this problem. Good Luck.

You would THINK that there would be a code leading me to the problem. Not the case.

There are more sensors and B.S. than there is engine in these trucks.I didn't scan mine
so I was just picking the pieces off one by one. Talk about a NIGHTMARE!

Yeah, I just hate to keep throwing money (that I really don't have!) at it, hoping to eventually get it right. So far since I've owned it (March), I've replaced plugs, cap, rotor, fuel pressure reg., and coolant temp. sensor...also set timing back to factory (10 deg. BTD??? I think). So, I haven't really dropped a whole lot of $$$ into it and it's really been a good truck other than the starting problem. But it's that one problem that is getting frusterating for me...stupid damn sensors! I'll tell you, I'm really an air-cooled VW guy at heart (the old Bugs and busses), and you can't get much simpler than those! You said that you got your problem cured with the coolant temp. sensor, yes?

Coolant Temp sensor is Correct, but I also changed-
New Distributor with pickup
New Coil
New Cap,Rotor,Plugs and Wires
New Intake Air Temp Sensor
New Fuel Pressure Regulator
New Ignition Control Module (BLACK ONE) The one on Drivers side Inner Fender Back
under Hood Hinge and sets in a Finned Aluminum Heat Sink.
Finally the Coolant Temp sensor solved my problem,Pulled it off another truck used

All of these parts can cause hot start problems, so it's a guessing game.

I've changed:

cap, plugs, rotor & wires
distributor twice (1st one bad from autozone)
igntion module (which tested bad at autozone)
coil &
coolant sensor
timing has been set to 10 btdc also.

still no fix

next I am going for the intake air temp sensor and then the throttle position sensor. I have noticed it has a hesitation when I press the gas lightly and at low throttle settings too.

Mine runs flawlessley other than the hard starts. Step on it and it goes like a raped ape. Idles fine, does everything else it's supposed to. My concern is the flooding and gas making its way down into the crankcase...not good!

as far as the timing goes I just Eyed it and adjusted it so it would turn over easy after it was hot, this won't cause your warm start problem as mine timing was off and it turned over hard when it got warm after the initial run, then I just retarded the timing by ear. I still have to time it correctly though.

My symptoms were Strong smell of fuel when trying to start it warm, then when cooled off it would blow black smoke bad out the tailpipe. It was flooding itself. Still tried the fuel pressure Regulator though, thought maybe had to much pressure.

Hopefully the Intake Temp Sensor will do the trick for you as it will cause a rich setting also.

Yes, and the ACT would be a pretty cheap fix! My symptoms are very similar to what you had, if not the same-

I have no idea. I'm throwing a tps at mine next. Then after that doesn't fix it I will go into the fuel system. This sucks and mine seems to be getting worse. I am going to burn up a starter soon.

Yeah, I'm on a new starter because of this.
