first timer doing engine rebuild.
so i bought a 71 250 , vin says 360 but stroke says 410 428. but any who just want to know what i need to know as far as what to do, what not to do. any help would be most helpful . thanks

So it has the hatchet weight on the crank snout and a counterweight on the flywheel/flex plate ? 428's were external balance.

Anything mechanical should be inspected for damage or wear.Realistically an old Fe is probably pretty worn out by now. On my `71 F250 I tore it down and had the block checked for cracks.It was good but needed bored out.The heads need totaly rebuilt.
1 disassemble
2 clean
3 inspect
4 repair/replace

That depends on the production year of the engine. The 428 CJs were externally balanced while the early 410s and 428s were internally balanced.
