Hi, problems with fuel reaching the engine and i was wondering if the interia switch was a problem, 1. Where would it be 2. How do i check it? And would the fuel pump not run at all if that was switched off? Because my fuel pump will run but fuel is not reaching the engine and fuel filter is brand new. thanks
Hi, working on a 1988 F250 I6 2WD 4.9L. She turns over awesome after some work but not its been narrowed down that the engine is recieving no gas. Also, the fuel pump is not recieving power, but we ran a wire to temporarily get it going to try to fire it up but still nothing. What I have found is that fuel will pass through everything to the filter. I can really only follow the fuel line to that point and know what's going on. So from past that point something is going wrong. Any help on what to do whould be appreciatted. Im not a big truck person so try to explain it easily(if thats possible) Thanks!
the external fuel pump isnt getting power. i ran a wire from the battery to the pump just to see if it will run and it functioned properly and fuel came out
Fuel pump relay. hangs off the back of the air filter box. There will be two relays next to each other. You want the one w/ the green base. the other one has a brown base which is the PCM relay. they are not interchangeable.
Just running a wire to the high pressure pump will not get you any fuel to the engine a lot of times. You also have to run one of the in-tank pumps also unless you have a full tank that the selector valve is locked too and the system is already primed.
Note:
The pumps are only going to run for one second when you turn on the key unless you are cranking the engine and the computer is seeing a "PIP" train of pulses. You get the pumps to run for one second with each "PIP" pulse.
Make sure the small black wire with a green stripe in hooked up and has a good ground on the NEG post of the battery.
When you turn on the the key you should hear one click out of the brown bottom relay. The green bottom relay should click when the key is turn on and then click again one second later to turn the pumps back off.
If the Relays to not click this way and the small wire has a good ground at the battery check the wiring under the two relays sockets. The wiring may be falling off.
