Today I pulled my 4x4 out side to see I could get my new motor started for the initial run in but it would only fire 10 to 12 times after the starter was let off, one of my mechanic friends told me that I should retard the distributor one tooth, does that sound like it would work or could the problem lie somewhere other than the timing.
Steve
I am positive that the firing order is right, so I will do the timing thing tommorow, also does it hurt it to start for a couple of seconds and be shut off ( I am in a shop with no ventilation, plus it is -10 to -15 Celsius out side so I will only push it out when I am sure it is ready to fire right up)

Hi All The 390 is going and going strong, I fired it up today and did the 1500-2500 for 20 minute break in, she started cold at 75 pounds oil pressure, but was down to 15-20 when I idled it down after the 20 minutes when it was running about 210 degrees.
Steve
It would not start before because the timing was one cog out on the distributor. just on a side note I wonder what the windchill factor would be with a 5 blade fan turning about 2000 RPM at -17 Celcuis.
Steve
wait I know this one....
Ok 5 bladed fan.... 2000rpm...... -17 C.....divided by circumference of fan....times pie R squared....carry the 1.....inverse co-tangent of right angle....equals..... "OH MY God" on the cold scale
