4 speed transmission

I am putting a 4speed in a 1975 highboy with a 429. The four speed is out of a 1975 highboy that had a 390 in it. I know that the 460 never came with a stick. Was this b\c the sticks couldnt handle the power? Do you guys think that the stick can handle the power of the 429?

NP435 4 speeds have no problem handling the power of a 460 a friend of mine has a 513 stroker backed with a stock NP435 so yes it can handle the power of a 429.
