can't I find a 73-79 truck BELOW $1000 no more???

Seems like everyone and their grandmother wants $2000-$5000 for a pile of hillbilly crap. What gives? I looked at a 78 F250 the other day. Motor was apart, no pedals, parts in cab, you name it...he wanted $3500 for the whole thing?!

$500 trucks, where are you?

I know what you mean. Out here in sunny southern California you can't find a good 70's era truck for much under two grand. The real nice ones go for much more. At least where I live. Before I bought my '75' truck, I looked in the paper for months in advance to get a idea of what they were going for. Looked in the local camera ads to see what kind of shape they were in. I finally resigned myself to the fact that I had to give up the cash if I were to ever have the one I wanted. Sometimes I run across an ad for a beater for anywhere between $800 - $1200. But still, no complaints. I got what I wanted and in good shape. I guess part of the reason is that the older Ford trucks have style and are built to last. I guess some people recognize quality when they see it and will try to sell it at a price they think others will be willing to pay, and some do. Then again, some are just plain silly.

Jermafencer, where are you at? Theyre in the paper here all the time for $500-$1500 for a 4x4 and you can drive them home. There will be some rust, but a good chasis here is cheap. Ive seen several 2wds go for under $500 with decent bodies.

My truck was selling on a used car lot for $1995, I traded my 95 F-150 2wd 302/5spd, straight across for it. The condition my truck was in booked it at $6000. In a way, I kinda got screwed, but I am much happier with the truck I have now. The one thing I miss is that paintjob, sapphire blue(purple) . Oh well, now I have a fresh canvas to start with.

tw, I'm from Maryland. Seeing you're from Nerbaska...that's a long drive. You're lucky. Everyone wants at least $1500 for a swiss-cheese pickup. 2wd or 4x4.

The California ones always go up high.....nice, rust-free bodies.

they do last forever.... My mom bought her 74 f-100 with an inline 6 from an old guy for 500$, he told her it use to be an old Weyerhauser truck (if you dont know what that is look it up, its a huge logging company).
Hasn't put any money into it besides gas, oil and some regular maintenance, sparkplugs..exc... hardly has anything left for a clutch, and she says she won't replace it untill it goes...that was about a year ago...but still runs like no other.
I had bought a honda prelude for my 1st car... I wished I had my mom's ford instead of the honda.... Damn lemons... So I bought my 77 f-100 from a friend for $300.
Great condition, small rust hole in each side of cab in floor next to the door. Nothing a little welding can't fix...and some minor engine trouble, nothing I cant fix... and all in all, I am now selling my honda so I can fix up my truck. She is going to be nice when I find a buyer for the honda......

Good choice. My 93 Acura Integra is for sale in autotrader starting friday Honduh's or Ford Truck. Useless expense (and not even the prestige of saying "I have a BMW :P" or useful truck that can do ANYTHING.

And I repeat ANYTHING, hell it can even pull my car along for the ride (hehehe)

And for those of you that have rust free (to me rust free means surface rust is acceptable,, but it needs a floor+firewall in good shape etc

For that cheap let me know!! If its worth it I wouldn't mind a "project" supercab 4x4 long bed If they really exist for that price! (750$CDN)

heh.

I looked and looked and ended up payin 2300$ for my 79 f-150 custom has a ton of new parts, attempted paint job in 98 thats falling apart but they replaced box/tailgate at least. and engine fresh 302 etc;

I am happy with what I got for my $ but I really wish I had an ext. cab or super cab, and I wish I had a Lariat but dont we all =)
