My truck was driving fine and out of no where I pulled in my sister's driveway taking my nephew home the truck died check engine light came on and battery light came on. I tried to start it it wouldn't start so I called my dad up to come tow me home. On our way I figured I'd try to start it so I did and it kicked over then died instantly and did it like 4 times. My battery died fairly quickly so much that my hazzards just staye solid and wouldn't flicker. I thought either the battery terminals could be bad but then thought if that was the case the truck wouldn't try to kick over. I figured the fuel pump but it wouldn't have almost started towing it home... Any Ideas?
*Edit*
Its a 2000 Ranger 4banger RWD and I've been having abs problems with it...
Bad battery plus bad alternator. I had a cell go bad once on me. As long as the truck was running, it stayed running. Once I shut it off, it was time to change the battery.
So I went out to my truck today without messing with it. Turned the key it started right up and ran fine. I shut it off went to start it back up and it wouldn't start. I changed the terminals and put a new battery in it and it tried to turn over once then it stopped. I tried to turn the key again and it was turning over but wouldn't start. I did it about 3 times then it was like the battery was draining right down to nothing and wouldn't start. I checked the oil and it is low but I don't see that being the reason it wouldn't start? Someone told me that a sensor would tell it not to start when its that low on oil is that true?
Perhaps if it is a sensor problem, add oil and try again. I'm hoping that your engine isn't seizing up.... And like gk said, check your battery even though it is new.
I sprayed some ether (quick start stuff) in and it started right up then died a few seconds later so I believe its the fuel pump I'm going to drop the tank one day this week and look at it more...will update when I do...
