Got a 2006 that had a leaking degas bottle so I went ahead and did a coolant change and bottle replacement. Everything went fine and ran up to temp and checked levels and all ok. Went to work the next morning and noticed that I had a coolant leak that seemed to be dripping off the right rear of the engine. Lost about a quart by the end of the day. Refilled the bottle, and drove home. Neither time did the temp rise out of its normal operating position. Parked on the driveway and rechecked all hoses and the bottle, nothing. Left the truck sit overnight and noticed a small amount of coolant (maybe 3 ounces) on the ground each side of the rear of the block now. Im baffled. Did nothing but a degas bottle and coolant, yet now I have a leak on both sides of the rear? I thought maybe a head gasket on the one side, but both head gaskets at the same time all of a sudden start leaking. And mostly from my experience most head gaskets leak into a cyl not onto the ground. Anyone have a any ideas?
The factory coolant temperature gauge is really just an idiot light.
I don't think your issue is head gaskets - no need for panic at this point.
Your leak could be the EGR cooler hose. It is on the passanger side of the engine, buried in the valley. If it is orange in color it is the old style hose and should be changed (new one is blue).
A search will get you the instructions on how to change it if that turns out to be the problem.
This could be a lot of things. I have seen similar with the upper radiator hose factory clamp going bad. A $3 hose clamp replacement fixes this. It could also be the small hose between the EGR cooler and the oil cooler is leaking. I have had both conditions happen to me. Parked on level ground, fluid leaks on the top of the engine will travel to the back of the engine. What you have described so far doesn't sound like head gaskets.
