Those that have done it, say that it's easier to change the fuel pump by unbolting & sliding the bed back, resting the front part on the rear tires & the tail gate end on saw horses.
Edit: If you'll remove the tailgate, it'll make the bed a few pounds lighter when moving it back.

Don't forget to first unfasten the rear tail light wiring harness & the fuel fill hose connection to the bed.

You'll need a large spanner wrench, or really big pair of channel locks or strap wrench, to remove the fuel pump locking ring atop the tank.

Let us know how it goes.

Removing the bed is my suggestion. you need a breaker bar or a pipe for the ratchet.. use rust penetrater. you will need a torx 55( buy 2). I ordered new hex bolts online and( ford wanted $16 each. also if you need to change shocks, hangers and or shackles etc. when the bed is off it it is a good time to do that.................

Are you sure you need a new fuel pump?

By removing the bed you can be into the tank in less than an hour. There are only 6 number 55 torx bolts for the bed and three screws for the fuel filler neck inside the fuel door. Keep track of what position the bed bolts come from because some are longer than others. Remove the tail lights, unplug the lights from the light housing and unthread the tail light wire harness from where it passes through some of the bed structure. Then it's easy for two guys to lift the bed up to clear the rear bumper and set it on a couple of saw horses behind the truck. If the fuel pump lock ring gets torn up during removal your local dealer should have them. Once you get to the tank by this method you will see why it's better/easier this way. Plus you won't need to be concerned about the amount of gas in the tank, where to put it or how heavy it is. And like pawpaw mentioned you can save a bit of weight by taking off the tail gate (no tools required for that part). Let us know how it goes.
