I have done my searches here on the oil leaks, etc. I still need some suggestions please.
I have degreased the motors.
I am running her and looking over the top of the motor for fluid leaks on or near the intake mainfold, valley, etc.
The fluid, I thought it was oil, ends up leaking out the bottom, making you think it is the rear seal, but I have read the threads on why this could be coming for the valley drain off.
When I was wiping some resude from the steam clean, I noticed that I had what seemed like clean diesel coming from under the black top/cap of this:
Does this make any sense? Sorry for the dumb questions, been a Ford guy since 1965 Mustang, but always gas motors.. Thanks in advance for any feedback.
welcome to FTE
what is the lose hose, looks like for HPOP. if it is diesel look at the drain valve. if oil look at turbo pedestal. if im reading this right.
That is your fuel filter and the cap can leak. It happened to me before, I bought a new filter and changed the o-ring and filter. Make sure the gasket bevel is facing the correct way.
Black top cap? The plastic 5 inch diameter one with the hex nut molded in? That would be the fuel filter cap, which would make sense for what you found leaking.... They have large o-ring that can be a leaker. Don't ask me how I know, but they can leak A LOT of fuel. I'd advise reseating the cap. You'll want to releave the pressure in the fuel bowl first by opening and closing the drain valve, about a half second open is more than enough. The drain valve is yellow and located at the bottom of the fuel bowl, passenger side. Take the lid off and inspect the o-ring for tears etc. If it looks good, wet it with fuel and reinstall the lid. Get it good and snug, but don't over tighten it, o-rings don't like that....
I've not dealt with that style of cap, but I suspect the o-ring to be like a stock cap. The stock o-ring is triangular and goes on the opposite of how you think it should...Just wish I could remember which way that was...If the leak persists, try flipping the o-ring.
Thanks guys, this interactive feedback is priceless.
I will take a closer look at the filter, take the suggestions, and see if I can re-seal it. I would have sworn the fluid was oil, but one thing at a time...
