Bartender's TIP

I thought I would go off on a tangent from the furniture delivery guy tipping post. As a Bartender for more than 20 years there are only a couple of "absolutes" when it come to leaving a tip...If the service sucks, don't leave a tip, AND tell the server why! If the food or drinks are bad, but the service is good, leave a tip and let the server AND manager know that the quality was poor.
The good tippers ALWAYS make up for the lousy tippers.
Go to www.stainedapron.com I especially like "The Rant From The Bar.":+

Bartender's TIP

Concerning 'A Rant From The Bar', I guess it's a good thing I've always started out with a 20 dollar tip to the bartender. It may seem high, but they will bend over backwards for you. In a crowd and all I need to do is make eye contact... drink on the way, usually on the house.

I'll admit, that bartender was a bit over the edge.. but he did get the point across.

Graffe.

Bartender's TIP

i always tip a dollar a beer and not less than 20% for meals. i worked in the business for a good portion of my life and know how it is. i get angry at my girlfriend(an accountant)when she tells me the tip is too big.

Question...
I can understand tipping in a sit-down restraunt, or at a bar, but how about fast food? Are you expected to give the girl behind the counter at McBurger World a tip just for punching a few buttons on the computer???

No on the "Fast Food" (if you can call it that). These people are paid at least minimum wage whereas the bartender or waitress average about $1.80 to $3.00 per hour wages. They make so little because the owners know they'll get tips.

Depends on how cute she is :-) But at a sit down place I always figure it's best to leave 10-20% depending on the service. If it is a place you visit regularly leave a generous tip and you'll be more likely to get extra good service when you visit. As for tips for bartenders I can't say because I'm not a drinker, but I think you should be kind, and the more drinks you have the kinder you'll probably be

Bartender's TIP

I have a lot of friends that work at restaurants and bars and we usually go to the places where they work, so we usually give like a 35% tip b/c of the fear that we'll get yelled at for not leaving a better tip
