simply put, i installed 4 driving lights a while back. They're wired to a relay (two seperate relays, powering a pair of lights each) and then wired to a switch in the cab. Had a brilliant idea the other night as I was using them and blinding oncoming drivers I should wire them to the high-beams.
Well, I don't just want them wired to the high beams. I want to be able to independently turn them on when necessary (without hi-beams) and have them also kick on with the high beams.
My thoughts were this, if I did that...If i turn my switch on to power the driving lights, wont the power to the relay then back power the high beam?
SO i thought I could simply put a diode in line between the power switch and the high beam power. Will this work? This way the power can't back flow and power up the hi-beams if I independently power the driving lights.
see attached.
If this'll work, what kind of diode can I use? silicone? rectifier? ?????? i know diodes limit power flow but i just don't know which one to use.
suh-weet! I already have one from a previous project. Bought it, althought I wasn't really sure what I was going to do with it. LOL! Its a silicone diode rated at 600volts and 1amp. I'll cross my fingers now.
