FPR shimming
I checked pressure pre-op. 60-65 PSI. Put the ball in behind the spring and checked pressure. Still 60-65 PSI. WTF???

What does the fuel filter have to do with the pressure reading? The reason I asked is because I put a cheapy autozone filter in a few weeks back (i know, i know, I need to get a NAPA gold) and heard rumors that the aftermarket filters don't press open the fuel fill the way the stock does. SO that being said, does the filter come before or after the pressure regulator? Could the crappy filter be causing the problem regardless?
At my whits end... was hoping to see an increase in power. Boo to that!
Any help is much appreciated.

I did check pressure before and after. It was 60-65 both times. ????
You have to make sure that the spring when you put the cap back on gets into that nipple otherwise you'll not gain any fuel pressure and could possibly lose some.
I don't know anything about the fuel filter deal your talking about, because there is nothing like that on my filter, but mines a 94, my fuel bowl is different.
I don't see why they would set it up like that.
As far as the filter housing/fuel bow goes i don't know what differences are there between a 94 and 96 but mine is similar to this stolen image I got from google image search:

The black shaft in the center is what Im talking about with having a valve that needs to be opened.
Pressure in the fuel bowl it only 7-10 psi.
Fuel Tank => Diaphram side of fuel pump => pumped to approx. 7-10psi => Through filter/bowl => Back to fuel pump (piston side???) => pumped up to pressure determined by FPR => Injectors => excess fuel to FPR => returned to fuel tank.
I don't see why the filter would cause a failed mod, unless against all odds it is restricting flow just the right amount that the piston side of the pump only gets enough fuel to pump up 65 psi. Yeah, HIGHLY unlikely.
I don't think the screen between the FPR and the fuel bowl would cause this senerio but i'd check to see if its clogged.
I'd suggest taking the mod apart and retesting stock.
Your gauge doesn't max at 65 psi, right? lol, some of the simplest things are overlooked.
