that paint that comes on patch panels?

leave it on, or take it off?
i know there's some pro body and paint guys on here. what do you guys do?

strip it off.

I usually strip it off. Its more a protection for storage than anything. No matter what, you have to strip it off where you weld it (if that is the route you go for installation)

good, i was kind of thinking that.
i've got to do both bedsides so it's going to be a little work.

we usually just sand off where we're welding, use the e-coat(usually what it is), no need to take it off completely.
