Fuel pump...What next?

Just had to replace a fuel pump gone bad. What can I expect to go next? Engine died while driving on the freeway, new pump, so far so good...only just turned 50K miles

Depends on how long it took to finally croak. If you've had a low pressure condition for a while, and not known it, the life of some injectors may be cut short. Then again, you may never have a related failure at all. If you drive conservatively, even a weak pump can keep up. Only time will tell.

How well do you take care of it and how many mods do you have?

Thanks guys. For the most part drive pretty conservative (used to have a toyhauler trlr the first 30k miles), change oil every 5k, fuel filters 15k, tranny, diff, coolant, etc at 30k. Mods are banks big hoss bundle w/ IQ, and dual monster exhaust, Banks ram air filter, not that it matters, but cryo front rotors with Hawk HP brake pads

Sounds like you take good care of it. I would get a fuel pressure gauge - fuel pressure should always be above 45 psig. Install an updated spring in the regulator if the pressure is low. Also monitor EOT and ECT - you should never see oil temps hotter than 15 degrees above coolant temp.

2005's have a propensity for the STC fitting in the high pressure oil system to leak (and so do the 2006's). If this happpens to you, you will have a "no start".

Make sure you use the OEM style filters!

Coolant needs to be flushed AT LEAST every 50k miles (use VC-9 cleaner when you do). Some techs are saying for you to do it every 30k miles. A coolant filter is a very good idea. So is re-routing your ccv.

These will add to the reliability of your truck.

Bismic, thanks again Brother! Have a coolant filter, just haven't installed yet, hoping to this Sunday. Where can I get the regulator spring? How difficult to install? I do as much as I can myself (fluids, filters, brakes, shocks, easy stuff) certainly not a mechanic.

The spring can be obtained from Ford or International.
Ford Part #3C3Z-9T517-AG
International # 1843065C95

I did the BB mod and am happy with it, but cheezit (resident tech) makes a good case to install the updated OEM spring.

The spring is part of the fuel pressure regulator and return system which is located in the side of the secondary fuel filter (very close to the thermostat). It is tight to get to it without pulling the thermostat, but I did. I pulled the intake elbow and CAC boot to make room.

Bismic:
Would this spring happen to the related to the "blue spring" that is in the new Fuel Pressure Regulator Kit (3C3Z-9T517-AG) Cheezit was speaking about?

Is it wrong to assume the updated OEM spring came as part of the new fuel pump?

The fuel pump is mounted on the driver side framerail, integral to the HFCM (as I'm sure you are already aware). The update spring you speak of, is part of the fuel pressure regulator kit mounted on the secondary fuel filter housing in the engine compartment.
