I recently put all new wheel cylinders on my 67 F250. I also took the power brakes system off of a 1970 and put on my 67 F250. I am now having back brakes problem. How can I explain the problem? When using the brakes they gradually lock up (the back brakes only). I can bleed them and they will work fine for a while but after 3 days or so (depending on how many times I push the pedal) they will lock up again and I have to bleed them again. The front brakes aren't affected. And another thing when they get to where they are locked up, I can't push the pedal down. Does anyone know what is going on here? Any help would be apprecaited.
On the master cylinder there is a small and a large reservoir. The small is for the back and the large one is for the front. Is yours hooked up this way? In the past someone had the same problem and it was because he hooked up the large reservoir to the back wheels.
Sounds like the adjustable rod between the booster and MC is adjusted too long and not allowing the bleed port to uncover in the MC. The length should just be under an inch from the MC mounting face on the booster to the tip of the rod. Try adjusting it shorter and see. Sometimes you can feel the rod engaging into the MC. you have to pump down the booster until there is no vacuum left (engine off) and then slowly push down on the brake pedal with your hand. You should be able fo feel the slack and when the rod bottoms into the MC before it starts pushing on it. Hope this makes sense.
BBB: Thanks for the info but I have some questions so I can understand better. How do I adjust the rod? Do I take the MC off of the booster to adjust it? How do I pump down the booster? Do I pump down the booster to adjust the rod?
Is it possable to have placed the auto adjuster in backwards causing them to tighten each time the brakes are used? It has been a wile since I did drums on my truck.

The rod has an adjustable tip. You have to separate the MC from the booster to get to the rod and make the adjustment.
To pump down the booster, with the engine off just pump the brakes around 10 times or until you don't feel any more power assist.
Then you can take your hand and push down slowly on the pedal and feel for the rod engaging into the MC. It takes a little practice to know what you're looking for. You're trying to feel the initial contact before it starts pushing into the MC. If you don't feel it the rod is probably too long. Try shorting it some and check again.
BBB: Thanks for the help. I adjusted the rod and I think it helped. It gave it some slack in the pedal. I haven't drove it around yet so I'll wait and see till the end of the week to see how it does. It looks good now though.
