I redid one in a 1995 chevy 4 years ago or so. Got the material at Joanne Fabrics, they actually sell headliner material if you can believe it. Used a can of elmers spray adhesive to stick it onto the backing board. did first edge about 6 inches or so with glue, got it on straight, then just kept doing 6 - 12 inch passes with glue and rolled it on, turned out pretty good too.
Edit: And before yall ask me why I was hanging out in Joannes, i was holdin the wifes purse while she satisfied her thirst for yarn, saw some heavy canvas, and found the material for headliners there......
CAREFULLY remove the headliner. it is only a foam type cardboard and will bend/crease and break easily.
If you are going to reuse the same material, peel it back a little more from where it is loose and I usually use 3M Spray Adhesive. Spray a thin coat on both the board and the material and let it sit for about 5 minutes, (depending on the temp), or until tacky. Not completely dry but not slimy...just a little tacky to the touch. Then using a dowel rod or something similar, starting from the attached areas, start reapplying it down. Once it attaches it is there so make sure you have it where you want it.
If you replace the material, most fabric stores carry what you need but it MUST be a "stretchy" type of material or the inside corners will look like crap when you are done. I figured that one out the hard way.

Just had mine re-done a month ago. I took it out and took it to a local guy 75.00 and looks as good as factory. I did away with the seat belts and wanted to get the hole covered up,so that took care of it.
